Even with the snow this week, it can't stop garden season from being right around the corner! If you want an accurate growing schedule I would recommend checking out the Clyde's Sliding Garden Planner. Since the last frost is very important with soil health and the future success of your harvest, it is important to coordinate planting around that. This chart allows you to adjust the frost line. Lentils pack a powerful punch! Get to know them! They are packed with nutritional benefits. Lentils also store very well so stocking up on them is easy! The soup I made this week is kind of a "throw it together" "make it your own" type of deal. I learned this method from my good friend Simon. Recipe-ish below :)
Garlic fermented in raw honey is exactly what our immune system needs to stay strong and REMAIN strong. Come into my kitchen for another short lesson on bringing these two powerhouses together.
Just the tip of the iceberg: Garlic contains sulfur which kills bacteria and viruses, disinfects the air and cleans our entire body of toxins. Containing over 200 active substances among which are vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and enzymes. Both garlic and raw honey have anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial properties. Great to soothe a sore throat or to calm down headaches and migraines. Although we all love to cook with garlic, and I still recommend it, cooking can take away some healing benefits. Be sure to get your share of raw cloves in! Together garlic and honey are considered to be super-foods because of how nutrient dense they both are by themselves. When combined, they make a complete body healer. ***Disclaimer: There are mixed reviews whether the syrup needs to be refrigerated. Due to honey being a natural preservative, I choose not to. Please do what you feel comfortable with. When you shop, what do you look for in an ingredient list? Do you even turn over the package? Here are a few tips in helping you read a label!
My heart has been in this area for awhile. I am certain most exercise regimens fail because
1. People get bored OR 2. They set unrealistic goals. For me--Quality wins over Quantity. Consistency is KEY my friends. I RARELY workout longer then 25 minutes a day BUT you bet your boots I get a consecutive 6 workouts in a week. That is a non-negotiable item. The quality of my workouts beats how long I work out hands down. If you have someone telling you you need to workout for 45 min to an hour a day they are not telling you the truth or it is from an uneducated source. Now--a unique situation would be a marathon runner or a triathlete whom will be competing for long periods of time. But for most of us--we DO NOT need that amount of time in. You better believe though the 15-18 minute workouts I am doing are highly intensive and with a PURPOSE. AND I do not get bored. Moms especially have a hard time carving ANY amount of time out. This helps with that! ....Remember--quality over quantity..... Consistency over time wins! So with believing in this my workouts are "mostly" in the 15-25 min time frame.... Stick with me & most importantly STAY CONSISTENT..you will get the results you are looking for :) Probably the most commonly used ingredient in EVERYTHING. I learned today that 1 teaspoon of sugar suppresses your immune system for 6 hours! 6 hours?!?!?!?! That is insane. A 12 ounce soda has
Let's face it. Colds and crud surround us daily. What is your armor? I spoke about Oregano in an earlier post but another gem I keep on hand is Tumeric. An herb that helps boost your immunity, is antibacterial/antifungal, and has been used for centuries.

Cooks' Note Using fresh turmeric adds a clean, bright flavor to this drink, but dried turmeric can be substituted when fresh is not available. Keep in mind that dried turmeric will settle to the bottom of the mug, so stir well before drinking. Recipe taken from: http://www.epicurious.com |
